Kisuii x Barneys Travel Diary

Kisuii's Founder and Creative Director, Leora Elituv (pictured above in our Uma One Piece and Marina Sarong)  went to Tulum for her best friend's 30th birthday, decked-out head to toe in Kisuii.  We worked with the team at Barneys to create a beautiful Kisuii travel diary for their blog, The Window.  Keep reading for a full account of Leora's trip!

Tulum

I went to Tulum for my best friend’s 30th birthday weekend.  I had previously been to Tulum about 5 years ago with two of my girlfriends for the sole mission to explore and find a beautiful beach. That’s how I fell upon Tulum, a true tropical Mexican oasis in the Caribbean.

This second trip was enlightening to see a whole new version of such a magical town - somewhere that uniquely combines the jungle, clear blue waters, fresh sea breezes, and white sands with shops, juice bars, and restaurants.

We stayed at the Nomade Hotel, which is a new hotel in southern Tulum.  The room opened right onto the ocean and was complete with a private patio and hammock.  The hotel boasts salt water showers and a variety of both cabanas and tents as accommodations, and proximity to the beach allows for an outdoorsy, picturesque, magical feel.

I visited Yaan Wellness Energy Healing Spa, one of the most incredible and relaxing spas I have ever been to.  It just won the Conde Naste Traveller Spa Awards for the best new hideaway. I had a wonderful experience starting off with their healing waters circuit. The healing waters consist of a cycle of sauna, Hamam (with a special scrub), followed by hot and then cold massage pools. The spa uses purified cenote waters (crystallized springs from the Yucatan natural sink holes, located close to the Mayan Ruins) in a way that cleanses, detoxifies, relaxes the body.

For a beautiful sunset, I recommend visiting the Papaya Playa Project. The sunset was absolutely lovely and romantic. While the destination also boasts a hotel, restaurant and night hot spot, the view for sunset is unrivaled.

Some of my favorite restaurants in Tulum are Gitano for fresh produce and fish and The Real Coconut at the Sanara Hotel for lunch where you can sit in or outdoors and enjoy smoothies and wellness shots.   For shopping, my go-to is the Wildsea Boutique for a beautifully curated collection of jewelry, beauty products, blankets, towels, swimwear and resort-wear.

On our final night, I was lucky enough to visit Habitas, a new accommodation experience that opened a week prior to our visit. Upon arriving, it felt like we were entering the wilderness because the accommodations offered at this resort are canvas tents with natural palapa roofs.

My friend had a white themed birthday party that night, which started off with a sunset Jaguar Blood meditation session in the courtyard where we sat in a circle on carpets. The ceremony included relaxing breathing techniques, self reflection, and zeroed in our intentions for our own selves, the group and for the birthdays girl. It was especially meaningful as we were a collection of my best friend’s close friends and family, so it was a great way to end a fun, 4 day vacation celebrating her 30th!

Our night continued with drinks at their beach side bar followed by a lovely dinner with a traditional Mexican menu.  Our night concluded (or one can say began) back where we started in the courtyard, with a private concert for our group and those staying at the hotel by Eduardo Castillo, one of the owners of the hotel.

Nomade Tulum

Tulum is truly an incredible tropical vacation as it is a destination spot that serve any intention you want. You can relax and reenergize in the wilderness and at the beach, enjoy fresh juices, yoga and bike rides, you can go out to incredible restaurants, you can party in all kinds of outdoor venues, you can explore ancient historic ruins, and water caves.

At our heart, Kisuii is a celebration of the unbridled spirit, and an endless summer.  And it was with that mindset that I traveled to Tulum.  No matter what intention you decide to travel there with, it can be fulfilled, it is just that beautiful.
